Terraced hills and a village at Nirmal Pokhari near Pokhara

Nirmal Pokhari Village Day

Terraced hills and a quiet pond, a short drive and a world away.

Half an hour southeast of Lakeside, the road climbs into Nirmal Pokhari, a spread of terraced ridges and farming hamlets that most travellers never see. It takes its name from the pond at its heart, still used and quietly cared for by the villages around it.

This is a day for slowing down. You walk the field paths between the terraces, stop for tea with a farming family, and watch the light move across Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and Dhaulagiri. It is close enough to reach in a morning and quiet enough that you may not see another traveller all day.

Highlights
  • The sacred Nirmal Pokhari pond
  • Field paths through the terraces
  • A farmhouse lunch with a local family
  • Annapurna and Machapuchare, without the crowds
